River Ice: One-of-One Light Sculpture

Atmosphere & Form River Ice is a commanding 37-inch tall light sculpture that merges the raw architecture of nature with precise internal engineering. The piece is built around a deep, hand-sculpted channel packed with clear glass crystals. This channel acts as a natural light guide. It catches and refracts ambient rays even when the unit is powered down. This ensures the sculpture maintains a sharp visual presence in a daylight environment.

The aesthetic changes entirely once the internal lighting is activated. For example, when set to blue hues, the crystalline path takes on the appearance of a moving river current flowing through the weathered wood. This specific interaction between the organic texture of the driftwood and the sharp, illuminated glass creates a striking, high-contrast atmosphere. The height and vertical movement of the piece make it a definitive focal point for any room.

Visual Performance Equipped with an integrated Smart-Lighting engine, River Ice offers total atmospheric control via Bluetooth. You can transition from crisp, surgical whites to deep, animated color scenes. The sculpture’s geometry allows for two distinct display modes. Position it forward for a direct, sculptural glow, or rotate the piece to wash a wall in ambient light to highlight the natural movement and grain of the wood.

Materials & Stewardship The driftwood was hand-selected in Utah for its structural character and weathered texture. It was finished with a natural beeswax polish and protected under a UV-resistant clear coat for a refined, premium luster that will not yellow or degrade over time.

Engineered Longevity The primary challenge of artisan wood with LED lighting is thermal management. While some creators simply bury LEDs in epoxy, a process that traps heat and significantly shortens the lifespan of the hardware, River Ice is built for long-term performance.

The lighting system is housed within a dedicated internal chamber. This space is custom-fitted with aluminum heat sinks and integrated ventilation. Because the high-output LEDs are a permanent part of the sculpture's core, this cooling system was engineered to dissipate heat efficiently. This ensures the electronics operate at peak performance so that River Ice can be enjoyed for years to come.
